WHAT IS COMMUNION?

“…Do this in remembrance of me.”

Christ did not give the church art or icons to remember Him, but He did give His followers the bread and cup. Communion, also called The Lord’s Supper, reminds us of our hope in Christ. The bread represents His body, and the juice represents His blood. By taking the Lord’s Supper, we are reminding ourselves of His person, work, death, resurrection, and return.

Take a moment to reflect on Jesus’s sacrifice on the cross and His love for you. Though Christ is not physically in the elements, His presence is with us through the Holy Spirit inside of us. Look for Him!

COMMUNION GUIDE

  • Take time to search for unconfessed (or even unrealized) sin in your heart (Psalm 139:23-24). Immediately, confess your sin(s) (1 John 1:9) and ask for God’s forgiveness. Thank God for His amazing grace.

“This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” (1 CORINTHIANS 11:24)

  • Take the piece of bread and eat it.

“This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” (1 CORINTHIANS 11:25)

  • Take the juice and drink it.

“For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.” (1 CORINTHIANS 11:26)

  • Until Jesus Christ returns, we take the Lord’s Supper as a reminder to hope for His return.

  • Take a moment to thank God for His gift of salvation through Jesus.
